Work Types

Work Types define the different kinds of tasks and operations performed on your farm. Before creating activities, you need to set up your work types organized into logical groups.

Set up Work Types first! You cannot create activities until you have at least one work type defined.

Understanding Work Types

Work Types are organized in a hierarchical structure:

Group (e.g., "Field Work") ├── Work Type (e.g., "Harvesting") ├── Work Type (e.g., "Irrigation") ├── Work Type (e.g., "Planting") └── Subgroup (e.g., "Soil Preparation") ├── Work Type (e.g., "Plowing") └── Work Type (e.g., "Fertilizing")

This organization helps you:

  • Keep related work types together
  • Find work types quickly when creating activities
  • Generate organized reports by work category

Accessing Work Types

Go to Activities in the left sidebar.

Switch to Work Types Tab

Click on the Work Types tab at the top of the page.

Managing Groups

Groups are containers that organize your work types. Each group can have:

  • A name and description
  • A color theme for visual identification
  • An icon
  • Subgroups for further organization

Click New Group

On the Work Types page, click the New Group button.

Best Practices

Keep Groups Logical

Organize work types into groups that match how your farm operates:

  • By operation type (field work, maintenance, administration)
  • By crop stage (planting, growing, harvesting)
  • By department (if you have specialized teams)

Use Clear Names

Choose work type names that are:

  • Descriptive and specific
  • Easy to understand for all team members
  • Consistent in style (all verbs or all nouns)

Start Simple

Begin with a few essential work types and add more as needed:

  1. Start with 3-5 main groups
  2. Add the most common work types
  3. Expand as you use the system

Use Colors for Visual Organization

Assign different colors to groups for quick visual identification:

  • Green for field operations
  • Blue for irrigation
  • Orange for maintenance
  • Purple for administrative tasks
