Creating an Allocation

An allocation connects a crop from your catalog to a specific cultivation zone for a specific season. This is how you plan what to grow, where, and when.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have already created:

  • ✅ At least one Crop in Resources → Crops
  • ✅ At least one Cultivation Zone in Resources → Farms
  • ✅ At least one Season in Resources → Seasons

Creating a New Allocation

Go to Resources → Crops Planning in the left menu.

Click New Allocation

Click the + New Allocation button in the top right corner of the page.

Select a Crop

A modal window will open. First, select the crop you want to allocate from the dropdown list. This list shows all crops you have added to your crop catalog.

Select a Cultivation Zone

Choose the cultivation zone where this crop will be planted. When you select a zone, the system displays:

  • Total zone area in hectares
  • Available area — how many hectares are still free

The available area takes into account any crops already allocated to this zone for the selected season.

Enter Area

Specify how many hectares this crop will occupy. After entering the area, you will see how many hectares remain available in the zone.

Example:

  • Zone total: 50 ha
  • Already allocated: 20 ha
  • Available: 30 ha
  • You enter: 15 ha
  • Remaining after allocation: 15 ha

Select Status

Choose the current status of this allocation:

StatusWhen to Use
PlannedYou are planning to plant this crop but haven’t started yet
PlantedSeeds or seedlings have been put in the ground
GrowingThe crop is actively growing in the field
HarvestedThe crop has been harvested
FailedThe crop did not succeed

Most new allocations start as Planned or Planted.

Set Planting Date

Enter the date when the crop was planted or will be planted. Use the date picker to select the date.

Set Expected Harvest Date

Enter when you expect to harvest this crop. This helps with planning resources and scheduling.

Enter Expected Yield (Optional)

If you want to track yield expectations:

  1. Enter the expected yield amount
  2. Select the unit (kilograms, tonnes, etc.)

This is optional but helpful for comparing actual results to your predictions.

Add Notes (Optional)

Use the notes field to add any additional information about this allocation:

  • Special growing conditions
  • Variety-specific requirements
  • Reminders for yourself or team members
  • Any other relevant details

Create the Allocation

Click the Create button to save the allocation. You will be returned to the allocations table where you can see your new entry.

Tips for Creating Allocations

Plan Your Season First

Before creating allocations, it helps to plan your entire season on paper or spreadsheet:

  1. List all zones and their total areas
  2. Decide which crops go where
  3. Calculate if your plans fit the available space
  4. Then create allocations in the system

Use Realistic Dates

Base your planting and harvest dates on:

  • Historical data from previous seasons
  • Crop maturity information (Days to Maturity field in crop details)
  • Local climate and growing conditions
  • Any contractual obligations (delivery dates, etc.)

Track Everything

Even if a field seems simple, create an allocation for it. This gives you:

  • Complete records for the season
  • Data for future planning
  • Compliance documentation if needed
