Glossary

Key terms and definitions used throughout the Koru.Farm platform and documentation.

Farm

The top-level organizational unit in Koru.Farm representing your entire agricultural property. A farm serves as a container for all fields, equipment, workers, and operations. Each farm has its own settings, reports, and data management capabilities.

Field

A designated area within your farm where crops are cultivated. Fields are the primary units for planning, tracking, and reporting agricultural activities. Each field can have unique soil conditions, irrigation systems, and crop histories that inform management decisions.

Crop

A plant species cultivated for commercial or subsistence purposes. In Koru.Farm, crops are configured with their specific growing requirements, expected yields, and care protocols. Common examples include tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and corn.

Variety

A specific cultivar or type within a crop species. Varieties differ in characteristics such as yield potential, disease resistance, maturity time, and market value. For example, Roma, Cherry, and Beefsteak are varieties of tomatoes.

Season

A defined growing period during which crops are planted, cultivated, and harvested. Seasons help organize your farm’s annual operations and enable year-over-year comparisons of productivity, costs, and outcomes. A farm may have multiple overlapping seasons depending on crop types and climate.

Crop Planning

The strategic process of allocating crops to fields, scheduling planting dates, and optimizing resource utilization. Crop planning in Koru.Farm provides visualization tools for planting schedules, tracks the complete lifecycle of each planting from seed to harvest, and helps maximize land productivity.

Equipment

Farm machinery and tools used in agricultural operations. This includes tractors, harvesters, sprayers, irrigation systems, and hand tools. Koru.Farm allows you to track equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and operational costs to optimize asset management.

Workers

Individuals employed on your farm who perform agricultural tasks. The workers module enables you to manage labor assignments, track work hours, monitor productivity, and coordinate team activities across different fields and operations.

Inventory

The stock of supplies and materials required for farm operations. This encompasses seeds, seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fuel, spare parts, and other consumables. Inventory management helps prevent shortages, reduce waste, and control input costs.

Activity

A specific task or operation performed on the farm. Activities include planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, harvesting, and equipment maintenance. Each activity can be scheduled, assigned to workers, tracked for completion, and linked to specific fields or crops for comprehensive record-keeping.

Weather Station

A monitoring system that collects real-time atmospheric data including temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, and solar radiation. Weather station integration enables data-driven decisions for irrigation scheduling, pest management, and harvest timing.
